Les Îles-de-la-Madeleine abound with activities of all kinds, regardless of the season or who you travel with. Although winter is pleasant on the Islands, the scenery is all the more magnificent in summer, and many activities are only accessible during this season. In this guide, you'll discover ideas for the perfect family summer day out. Fun guaranteed!

A morning between sand and sea

A gourmet breakfast at Cap-aux-Meules

To start the day off right, head to Cap-aux-Meules for a delicious breakfast at Resto de l'Île. You'll find everything from savory egg breakfasts to sweet classics like traditional donuts. Enough to give you the energy you need for the busy day ahead!

Explore your creativity

Once you've filled your belly, head to Parc de Gros-Cap in L'Étang-du-Nord. Here, you can take part in a sandcastle-building activity led by a well-known local builder, who will give you tips on how to sculpt the sand of the Islands! You can let the kids participate, but the whole family is welcome, and all the equipment (shovels, buckets, sculpting tools, etc.) is provided.

Paddle your way to adventure

While you're at Parc de Gros-Cap, take a trip out to sea! If your children are over 10, you can take a guided sea kayak tour of the Parc de Gros-Cap area, renowned for its cliffs and caves. If you prefer to discover the Islands at your own pace, you can also rent recreational kayaks and paddleboards.

An afternoon of exploration

Culinary break: discover the flavours of L'Étang-du-Nord at café L'Été

For lunch after your sea excursion, head to Café L'Été, located on the magnificent site of La Côte de L'Étang-du-Nord. With its Scandinavian-inspired bohemian decor, the café offers a unique, warm and relaxed atmosphere. Enjoy home-cooked meals such as sandwiches, salads and desserts, as well as specialty coffee. It's the perfect place to take a short break before getting on with your day.

Explore the Borgot Lighthouse

After you've eaten, why not take the opportunity to visit one of the six lighthouses, emblems of Les Îles-de-la-Madeleine? Four of them are open to the public, and the Borgot Lighthouse, built in 1874, is within walking distance of Café L'Été. An observation site has been set up for visitors around the lighthouse, and as you walk, you'll enjoy views of the coast and ocean.

Discover artisanal traditions at the Pied-de-Vent cheese factory

Located on the island of Havre-aux-Maisons, the Pied-de-Vent cheese factory is a must on the Islands. Established in 1998, it produces five types of cheese that have won numerous awards. The cheese factory has also held the title of Économusée since 2010. It is possible to take a guided tour of the farm to see how a dairy farm works, but you must make a reservation at least 24 hours in advance.

End the day on a high note

Gourmet ending: Discover local flavours at Domaine du Vieux Couvent

The dishes blend tradition and modernity, showcasing the very best of what the Islands have to offer. Let the local flavors cooked with love transport you!

Extend the evening with a round of minigolf at the Sillons campsite

If you're still up for an after-dinner activity, the miniature golf course at Camping des Sillons offers an 18-hole course that's sure to please young and old alike. It's the perfect opportunity to spend some time outdoors while enjoying a light, fun activity.

Comedy, music and theater in Les Îles-de-la-Madeleine

If minigolf isn't your cup of tea, opt instead for a comedy or music show, or a play! There are plenty of places on the Islands to enjoy such events, including the Pas Perdus performance hall and the Centre culturel du Havre-Aubert.

Naturally, this guide offers suggestions for activities and places to visit, but it's up to you to adapt your stay as you wish. Whatever you do, you will without a doubt fall under the archipelago's spell. The important thing is to have fun and spend quality time as a family!
